Why choose vegan?

Hello, fellow animal activists! Welcome to No Chick Left Behind, my little corner of the blogging world. Before we get in to the purpose of this blog, it would only be polite to give a proper introduction.

My name is Susanne, I’m 20 years old, and I was born and raised in sunny Florida. I’m currently in my third year of journalism studies at the University of Florida. My love for animals has always been a big part of who I am. It is my passion and my privilege to be able to advocate on their behalf and educate those who inquire about my lifestyle.

My own little four-legged family consists of Nala, my German Shepherd mix pictured with me below, and my two adorable cats, Kiara and Simon. They bring me nothing but joy and affection, and they are a large part of why I do what I do.

If you ask me, no species of animal matters less or more than another. Dogs and cats are not superior to cows and chickens, and it’s about time the rest of the world fell in line with this thought process. When I was young, I had four pet ducks. Despite being considered “farm animals,” Racy, Tracy, Daisy and Daffy were just as sweet and affectionate as my pets are now. My family raised them from the time they were born, and they used to follow me around like they would their own mother.

When people hear the word “vegan,” an image probably comes to mind of a salad-munching hippie screaming “meat is murder!” … Or something along those lines. Anyway, those people might be surprised to discover that most of us, love of salad aside, are pretty normal. In this day and age, we are lucky enough to live in a world where you can buy veggie burgers and vegan cheese at your local grocery store, so there’s no reason to feel left out at the next family barbecue.

Choosing veganism doesn’t have to be a huge commitment. If you wish, you can start small and slowly cut more animal products from your diet and lifestyle. What matters is that with every meatless meal you eat or faux leather jacket you buy, a life is saved. To learn more about veganism and animal rights, be sure to follow this blog to be notified of new posts.

Love always,

Susanne

I love this!! I have been vegan for nearly 9 months and loving every part of it. I also live in Florida and at first, I felt like it didn’t provide many options for me. Since then, I’ve done some exploring and found that even in places where meat and dairy rule the primary diet, there are still incredible options. Im so incredibly happy for you and your journey!

Thank you so much, and congrats on the decision to go vegan! I definitely know what you mean by having limited options but before I was lucky enough to move to a veg-friendly college town, having so few options inspired me to cook a lot more and I learned some amazing recipes. Good luck on your continued journey!
